چکیده
background and aims. despite available evidence for the role of herpes viruses in destructive periodontal diseases, no cause-and-effect relationship has been found to date. this study compared the titer of immunoglobulin g (igg), immunoglobulin m (igm) against human cytomegalovirus (hcmv) in gingival crevicular fluid between individuals with periodontitis and with healthy periodontium. materials and methods. thirty samples of gingival crevicular fluid (ten from infected sites and ten from non-infected sites from ten individuals with periodontitis and ten from ten individuals with healthy periodontium) were provided. the titer of igg and igm were evaluated. data was analyzed by one-way anova, kruskal-wallis test, t-test, duncen’s test and pearson’s correlation coefficient. results. there were no statistically significant differences in the means of igm titers of the three groups under study (p>0.05), but there were significant differences in igg titers between the three groups (p<0.001). conclusion. within the limits of the present study, it can be concluded that igg titers against the human cytomegalovirus can increase in patients with periodontal diseases but the igm titers do not show a significant increase in these individuals.

Gingival Crevicular Fluid Immunoglobulins in Smokers with Chronic Periodontitis
Tobacco smoking is regarded as one of the most significant risk factors in the development and progression of periodontal disease. Studies have shown an altered host antibody response to antigenic challenge in smokers with periodontitis. The study was undertaken to estimate the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) immunoglobulin G,A,M (IgA, IgG and IgM) levels in smokers and non smoker with periodon...

AIM To identify the diagnostic accuracy of gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) candidate biomarkers to discriminate periodontitis from the inflamed and healthy sites, and to compare the performance of two independent matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-8 immunoassays. MATERIALS AND METHODS Cross sectional study. GCF (N = 58 sites) was collected from healthy, gingivitis and chronic periodontitis volunt...
متن کاملArginine and glutamate levels in the gingival crevicular fluid from patients with chronic periodontitis.
The objectives of this study were to determine arginine and glutamate levels in the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) of adult chronic periodontitis patients versus periodontally healthy controls, and to compare two kinds of microdialysis probes: normal and U-shaped probes. The analysis of GCF components was developed to improve the diagnosis of periodontal disease (PD). Proteolysis in the period...
متن کاملPAR-2 expression in the gingival crevicular fluid reflects chronic periodontitis severity.
Recent studies investigating protease-activated receptor type 2 (PAR-2) suggest an association between the receptor and periodontal inflammation. It is known that gingipain, a bacterial protease secreted by the important periodontopathogen Porphyromonas gingivalis can activate PAR-2. Previous studies by our group found that PAR-2 is overexpressed in the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) of patien...

BACKGROUND Tobacco smoking is regarded as one of the most significant risk factors for the development and progression of periodontal disease. In particular, studies have shown an alteration in Gingival Crevicular Fluid (GCF) volume and its components in smokers. OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to compare the GCF volume in smoking and non-smoking Saudi subjects with chronic periodonti...

AIM The aim of this study was to assess the levels and diagnostic accuracy of a set of potential biomarkers of periodontal tissue metabolism in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) from patients with chronic periodontitis (CP) and asymptomatic apical periodontitis ( AAP). MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty one GCF samples from 11 CP patients, 44 GCF samples from 38 AAP patients and 31 GCF samples from 1...
